The Boy And The Warrior
The Brazilian slave
boy, Bento, follows his cruel master into the mountains
and witnesses his supernatural disappearance. Alone, he
finds his way home. To his surprise his master's widow
frees her slaves to become sharecroppers, and Bento
helps build a cooperative farm. Two years later, he
meets the ancient black King Zumbi in a vision. The
warrior invites him to travel back in time to his 17th
century kingdom. Hardship and adventure prepare Bento
for life in past time where he lives among the ancients
for two years.
This novel is a story
of hope, inspired by the historical Palmares community
before its tragic destruction by a mercenary army.
Through the character Bento, this book opens a window in
time to witness the glorious achievements of the escaped
slaves who built this thriving community that survived
100 years with new vision and courage.
